The power of a Vision Board Ritual is great. Those of you who have known me for awhile, know that I’ve been hosting Vision Board events for over ten years every January. It’s one of my favorite things to do because I see participants pause, take a breathe and get very deliberate about what they want in the upcoming year. A few years ago, I started doing a mid-year check in to see what things were actually coming true and showing up in people’s lives. The stories are amazing. From new jobs and relationships, to just the right house (just like the picture on the vision board), to babies, to trips, and on and on and on.
The Power of a Vision Board Ritual is Great. There are many reasons to make sure you do a vision board every year. These are just a few of them:
- Getting clear on what you’re finished with from the previous year.
- Making sure you know what you don’t want.
- Being deliberate about how you’re going to focus your energy in the current year.
- Staking a claim to what’s going to be yours soon. I liken this to speaking our truth into a room. It’s a very powerful tool.
- Giving priority and precedence to YOUR goals and stating that what YOU want and need is important.
- Taking time to make a plan.
- Allowing something bigger than you to come in to your life to help and acknowledging that you don’t have to do it all yourself with sheer will.
- And if you make your vision board in a group setting, you’re also maximizing the intentional energy of a like-minded group.
I know a bunch of you reading have other reasons. What’s yours?
Yesterday, I attended another coaching friend’s vision board workshop so that I could create my own vision board for 2017. It’s not possible for me to create my own while leading a group event. I wanted to devote some deliberate time to my own. I also wanted to bring my soon-to-be twelve year old daughter so that so that she could add this ritual to her life. We both enjoyed being in the group energy of creation and I enjoyed seeing how the Divine shows up so differently in each one of us. As I walked around the room at the end viewing finished boards, I could see what important things and events were happening in everyone’s lives even though I didn’t know most people in the room. From having babies to looking for love to going through deep personal transformation, there it all was in front of my eyes. Life at its essence.
The faciliator’s goal was for everyone to leave with a finished vision board. That’s different than how I usually complete mine as I like to spread out on my dining room table in private and really be with my thoughts. But this year, I decided to follow instructions and to step into my intuition and allow whatever force was in the room to guide me. It felt a bit foreign and a little stressful for me but I am one for learning new things and adventure. I allowed the energy and my heart to place my photos versus the much more cerebral exercise I’d done in the past. At the end, I was so full of information, I couldn’t really relate to my own board and I wasn’t sure I liked it. I took it home and displayed it so that I would see it when I awoke.
As I write, I look over at this vision board and I see that it’s the perfect message for me and exactly where I’m going in 2017. Someone else might not be able to read it like a book, but the energy and the intention are spot on. What else could I ask for?
I hope you will consider adding this ritual to your practice. I think it’s a priceless one. Find a group or create one. If you’d like to join me, I’ll be leading an event in two weeks and we would love to see you. Details here and on Facebook here.
